Last Saturday evening the Pomona Police Department held a DUI Checkpoint on Holt Ave & Hershey St. During the course of the checkpoint, a car attempted to avoid the checkpoint and contact the officers. After officers stopped the car, they discovered that the driver was not properly licensed. During a search of the car, a loaded handgun was found and one of the passengers, Conrad Johnson was arrested. Johnson is a gang member and he was charged as a gang member in possession of a firearm.
Later in the evening, another driver failed to follow officers' instructions and drove away recklessly from the checkpoint. The driver crashed his car and fled on foot. He was eventually stopped and arrested. He had a suspended license for DUI and is on probation for DUI. He was arrested for resisting arrest, hit and run and other charges.
This DUI checkpoint resulted in 6 DUI arrests. This operation was completely funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
